HISTORY
OF THE ORGANIZATION
Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal is affected by recurrence
of flood, cyclone and inundation with saline water, occasional
drought. On that time the people of these areas were also
suffered from impeded drainage, proper communication, proper
educational facilities and basic health services. In the
above backdrop, the then social workers along with the villagers
felt an immense urge to form a platform to perceive the
problems and to take the steps for remedial measures.
Accordingly the Kajla Janakalyan Samity (KJKS) took the
shape in 1945 before independence. The initial works such
as library set up, rendering clinical facilities, relief
work, supplementary coaching centre, sports and cultural
programs etc were done entirely with the active participation
of the villagers.
Under the leadership of the organization various facilities
such as village road construction, set up of post-office,
school, co- operative society and even the Tele-communication
facility and electricity for domestic consumption were arranged
with the collaboration of the Government.
From 1990 onwards, as change in the works
strategy/approach was observed in the perspective of globalization
and new economic policy affecting the rural people instead
of concentrating on mere welfare activities, the organization
started emphasizing on sustainable development.
Again KJKS feels that people will be able
to access all basic services when they will be aware about
their rights. Keeping in mind this KJKS started to emphasis
on right-based activities along with sustainable development
since 2000.
